There are many preachers who preach what I call wealth sermons. Oh if you would just give some more money God will bless you!!! Listen, God has already blessed you beyond all that you can imagine. He gave you the blood of Jesus. There is a song that I used to hear sung quite often that said there is power in the blood of Jesus. Before you give God anything, God gives you power. What kind of power? Most Christians would say I don’t feel powerful. As a matter of fact many Christians might even feel weak. Why? Because we have become so preoccupied with things we have strayed off of what is really important.
Let’s turn to Exodus 12:7. This is where God is planning to lead his people out of Egypt. This is a symbol of what happens even now. We live in very corrupt times. We have begun to worship idols instead of God. We have slain babies in the millions. Look what happens. The Hebrews kill a lamb that did not sin. Are you seeing Jesus yet? They take its blood and put it on the door posts and the lintel or top part of the door frame. Can I ask you some questions? Why didn’t God just tell them to put a little dab on the house somewhere? Why did so many lambs
have to die?
It is important to realize that God doesn’t have us do things that serve no purpose. Just a dab of blood could have stopped the death angel if God had wanted it to. However, as people left their houses, they would have passed by the blood and not through it. God don’t want you to pass by the blood. Since only the first born would die when the death angel came by, only the houses with first born children really needed the blood on the door frame. Yet, God told all the Hebrews to do this. This is a type and shadow of what God wants today. He wants all of us to be covered by the blood of Jesus.
To hear some preachers, you might think Jesus is not the only way. Well I’ve got news for you. I’m glad Jesus is the only way. We don’t have to pay a thing. The ticket is bought and paid in full for. All we have to do is get on board. What is not to like about that? Every other religion I have studied says there is a cost. Listen, what do you want to do to get into heaven? The blood of Jesus gives you the power to get into heaven. Without it, there is no forgiveness (Hebrews 9:22).
