Why We Should Believe

I’ll be honest with you and tell you my own mother doesn’t feel this way about me. If I were to go to her house there would be tension so thick it could be cut with a knife. Yet our Father in heaven is waiting to throw a party and give us a position in his Kingdom when we come to him. As a matter of fact, punishment is not what God wants to carry out on you. Notice that the father here doesn’t beat this kid with in an inch of his life. The kid not only lived with pigs, he blew the money his father gave him on booze and prostitutes. Listen, no matter what you’ve done God wants to love you and treat you well just as you are. That’s a father worth having and it is all made possible by belief in Jesus. Actually, the name Jesus really means Yahweh is salvation.

We often say that Jesus saves. If you were to poll most folk who believe they are saved, you might just find that most can’t really explain salvation or what they are saved from.

What are we saved from? It is called God’s wrath. This has a two fold implication. One wrath that God has is carried out on folk after death, that don’t believe in Jesus and the other is going to be carried out on the earth during the time that the book of Revelation takes place.

If everyone really believed in Jesus, there wouldn’t really be a need to lock your house. There wouldn’t be wars. There wouldn’t hardly be any crime at all (nobody is perfect). Everything that God wants you to do, and everything that God doesn’t want you to do has to do with loving others. It is hard for you to love someone and steal from them at the same time. God carries out wrath on unbelief. Unbelief  leads to being evil to others. God doesn’t want us to be evil to others. Sin leads to bondage. Often time it leads to loss of family, job, and possessions. God doesn’t want you to suffer any of these things. So much so that he has made it clear that he will punish those who prefer sin over belief in Jesus. If you really believe that Jesus’ death is the punishment for your sins, God won’t carry out his wrath on you. And if God didn’t even spare his own son, why should we believe he wouldn’t carry out his wrath on those who don’t believe?

So believe in Jesus starting now. Why take a chance that you might die facing God’s wrath?
